Read and analyze one of the profiles from the Layout Workbook. You will prepare a written analysis of at least 300 words and present your findings to the class through a visual presentation.
In your analysis consider the designer’s use of color, typography and grid. How did their choices influence the final outcome? What shaped their choices? What makes their final output appropriate to the topic? How is their solution successful? You may need to speculate on some of these questions, but should be able to base your conclusions on what they have already said. You should also research the designer (or firm) and look at other work they have done to help shape your thoughts.
As you compose your thoughts, keep in mind that analysis is the process of breaking a complex topic into smaller parts to gain a better understanding of it. Do not simply summarize the information from the text, but apply your own thoughts and make your own inferences.
Presentations should be 10-20 minutes in length. You will be using the projector to show supporting imagery. This may include additional works by the designer, related printed materials from the same campaign, etc. On your assigned day, print your written analysis and move your files for the visual presentation to the PP folder on DropBox.
